Nokia N8 Released Today!

Posted on September 9, 2010

Today is the official launch date of the much anticipated brand new Nokia N8 Smartphone, although rumblings from Nokia have recently suggested that it might be delayed for another week.

Where you live will also determine whether you get to see the Nokia N8 for a while, because  Nokia are only rolling out the phone initially to certain markets.

All year Nokia have been losing mobile phone market  share to the Apple and Blackberry tablet phones. The new N8 is expected to change all that with some superior functionality.

The N8 is the first Nokia camera phone to utilize a 12 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens camera sensor size of 1/1.83″,[3] and the third one equipped with xenon flash since the Nokia 6220 classic smartphone in 2008 and Nokia N82 smartphone in 2007. The camera also shoots HD video in 720 format

The N8 display features a 3.5-inch (89 mm), 360 x 640 pixel color touchscreen, and is the first Nokia smartphone to run on the Symbian^3 operating system with single-tap interaction, featuring the addition of multiple home screens, customization abilities, and multi-touch capabilities with gesture support.

The N8 has advanced connectivity features including  HDMI out, Dolby Digital Plus sound, and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n support; the N8 is also the first device to feature a Pentaband 3.5G radio.

Whether the N8 can cut into the iphone and blackberry market remains to be seen as these phones have quickly become iconic fashion statements. The phone is expected to retail in the UK at around the £430 mark initially although cheap deals will be available from network providers.

The cheapest Nokia N8 UK deals are currently being offered at Vodafone and the other direct networks who offer both PAYG and contract Nokia N8 deals.
